Description
A standing frame in mango wood that takes an 8 by 10 inch print. It is made as a box rather than a flat moulding, with glass at the front and glass again at the back, so the print sits between two panes with bare glass showing around it. The wood is square in section and wide across the face, left unstained so the grain runs through it, and the bottom rail is made deeper than the other three to carry the frame upright.
The back pane slides out of the frame. The print goes in against the front glass and the back pane slides home behind it, and that is the whole of the fitting: no board, no clips and no tape. Because both panes are bare, the wall or the shelf behind shows through around the print, so an 8 by 10 image reads as though it is held in the air rather than mounted on a backing.
The wood is mango, grown for its fruit first and cut for timber only once the trees have stopped bearing fruit, which lets the growers replant and take a second income from the same land. It is left natural, so the colour runs from pale straw to a tawny brown from one frame to the next and no two faces match. A smaller frame is made in the same design, taking a 6 by 8 inch print. A print is not included.

Frequently Asked
What size print does it take?
8 by 10 inches. A smaller frame is made that takes 6 by 8.
How does the print go in?
The back pane of glass slides out. Put the print in against the front glass and slide the back pane home behind it.
Is it glazed on both sides?
Yes, front and back, so the print is held between two panes and the background shows through around it.
Does it hang?
No, it stands. There is no hook on the back, and the deep bottom rail is what holds it upright.
How do I look after it?
Use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass, and a soft, dry cloth on the wood to prevent a build up of dust or dirt. Rubbing an edible oil such as olive oil or walnut oil into the wood with a cloth will protect it, though it may darken the tone.
