Description

A solid mango wood picture frame measuring 50cm by 35cm overall and 1cm deep. The moulding is flat and narrow with square corners and a plain face, left in its natural tone so that the grain reads through it. The glass slides out of the frame rather than lifting away from the back.

There is no fixed orientation. The frame hangs either way up, so one frame takes a tall photograph or a wide print without a second fixing. At 50 by 35cm it is the largest of the three Indu wall frames; the other two measure 36 by 29cm and 20 by 26cm.

The wood is mango and the glazing is glass. Mango is grown first for its fruit and felled only once the trees have stopped bearing, which is what puts the timber into use and lets the growers plant again. To mount something in it, the glass slides out of the frame, the piece is fixed in place, and the glass slides back.

Frequently Asked

How do I get a photograph into it?

The glass slides out of the frame. Arrange the photograph or the artwork and attach it, then slide the glass back into position.

Can it hang landscape?

Yes. It hangs either portrait or landscape.

How big is the frame?

50cm by 35cm overall and 1cm deep. It weighs 2.849kg.

What is it made from?

Solid mango wood, with glass.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so that dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. An edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed into the wood will protect it, though it will darken the tone.
