Indu 36 x 29cm Mango Wood Photo Frame - Natural

A picture frame 36 by 29cm in solid mango wood, made from four flat sections mitred at the corners with no moulding worked into the face. The wood is left its own pale colour, so the grain and the darker streaks through it run straight across the frame rather than being broken up by a profile. The glass slides out of the frame rather than lifting away from the back.

It hangs either way up, portrait or landscape, which is decided when it goes on the wall rather than when it is bought. At 1cm deep it sits flat against the wall, so a group of frames in different sizes can be hung close together with none of them standing forward of the rest. It takes photographs, but equally a pressed flower, a painting on paper or anything else flat enough to lie under the glass.

The frame is mango wood and the glazing is glass. Mango trees are grown first for their fruit and cropped for years; only when they stop bearing are they cut for timber, which lets the farmer plant again and draws a second income from the same tree. Indu also runs to two standing frames that prop rather than hang, and to a pair finished in dark ash.

How do I get a picture into it?

Slide the glass carefully out, arrange and attach the picture, then slide the glass back into position.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth so dust and dirt do not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. An edible oil such as olive or walnut rubbed into the wood with a cloth will protect it, though it will darken the tone.
