Description

A shallow ceramic dish 11.5cm across and 2cm deep, glazed cream, with a raised rosette of fine ridges moulded into the middle of the well and a single row of indigo drops around the rim. The ridges radiate from the centre in short overlapping leaves, and they are what does the grating. The ring of plain glaze around them catches whatever comes off.

Rubbed across the ridges, a clove of garlic or a knob of ginger comes off as a paste rather than in shreds, and it gathers in the well instead of having to be dug out of a box grater. At 11.5cm it serves as a small dish on its own as well, for mixing oils, spices or a paste.

The body is ceramic and it is food safe. Each piece is shaped by hand in Vietnam and then painted, so the drops around the rim sit at their own spacing on every one and the ridges come out of the mould a little differently each time. Indigo Drop carries the same row of drops across plates, bowls, jugs and a teapot.
