Ilcoso Recycled Hammered Glass Soap Dish - Green

The Ilcoso is a soap dish in recycled glass, an oblong 14cm long and 8cm across with rounded ends. The green reads bright and olive across the floor of the well, where the light passes through thin glass, and turns nearly black up the sides where the wall thickens. The wall carries the hammering as shallow dimples and soft facets, and the rim runs a little unevenly rather than level. Small bubbles are held in the glass.

At 2cm high the dish keeps a low profile on a basin surround, and a footprint of 14 by 8cm holds a standard bar with a margin around it. The well is shallow and dished, flattening out through the middle. A basin surround, a bathroom shelf or the side of a kitchen sink all take it, and the thickness of the glass gives it enough weight to stay where it is set down.

The glass is recycled. Waste glass is washed and crushed, melted down and moulded, and traditional tools are then worked over the surface to leave the dimpling. Every dish takes that working differently, so the facets and the line of the rim vary from one to the next. The Ilcoso range runs in green, amber and clear, and a dispenser and a storage pot go with the dish in each of the three.

What size is it?

14cm long, 8cm across and 2cm high.

What is it made from?

Recycled glass.

Why is the green darker in some places?

The wall is much thicker at the sides than across the floor of the well, so the same glass reads almost black at the edge and bright olive in the middle.

Will each one be the same?

No. The surface is worked by hand, so the dimpling and the line of the rim differ on every dish.

How do I look after it?

A mild detergent is enough. Do not leave it to soak, and handle it with care.
