Description

A wool throw, 170cm by 120cm, woven in a fine stripe that runs the length of it. The stripe is narrow and pale and repeats every few millimetres, so it reads as texture from across a room and as a line close up. The weave carries a raised diagonal rib that catches light along the stripe. Both short ends finish in a long knotted fringe left undyed.

At 170cm it runs the length of a two seat sofa, and folded in three it covers the foot of a double bed. Hung over the arm of a sofa with the fringe clear of the seat, the rib and the stripe read down the fall of it rather than across.

The yarn is wool, dyed in Italy and woven in Portugal on small antique looms. After weaving the wool is carded to raise the surface and then washed with softeners, which is what gives the rib its nap. Ilaa is also made as a cushion cover in two sizes, 50 x 50cm and 60 x 40cm.
