Ilaa 50 x 50cm Striped Wool Cushion Cover - Sand

The Ilaa is a square cushion cover, 50 by 50cm, woven from wool throughout. Fine cream stripes run across the face a few millimetres apart, raised a little above the ground so they read as ribs rather than as printed lines, and the twill of the weave shows as a diagonal between them. The ground is a warm sand that runs to caramel under the studio lights.

At 50cm square this is the standard cushion size, and it sits upright in the back corner of a sofa or fills an armchair on its own. Set with the rectangle in front of the square, the stripe runs the same way across both. Ilaa is made in that second size too, 40 by 60cm.

The wool is dyed as yarn in Italy and woven in Portugal on small antique looms, then carded after weaving to raise the surface. The carding is what gives the ground its nap and lets the raised stripe stand clear of it. This is the outer cover only, so an inner is needed and is not supplied with it.

Is an inner included?

No. The cover is supplied on its own and an inner is bought separately.

What size is it?

50 by 50cm. Ilaa is also made as a 40 by 60cm rectangle.

What is it made from?

Wool, and nothing else. The yarn is dyed in Italy and woven in Portugal on small antique looms.

Is the colour fast?

Every cover is tested for colourfastness before it is sold.

How do I look after it?

Follow the care label on the cover itself. For a spill, lift the liquid first with an absorbent tissue, then blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it by blowing warm air across the surface with a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger or more stubborn stains are a job for a professional.
