Description

A framed textile panel, 95cm tall and 75cm wide, set in a thin pale wood frame. The ground is a loose plain weave in an oatmeal tone, and across the middle of it sits a large rectangular block of looped pile that stands proud of the surface, worked in mixed cream and honey. The loops run in vertical streaks, so the block reads lighter in some columns and darker in others, and the weave of the ground shows through everywhere around it.

At 95cm tall and 75cm wide it hangs in portrait. Hung above a bench, the raised block sits at about eye height. The frame is 8cm deep, so the panel stands off the wall rather than lying flat against it. It weighs 5kg.

The fabric is woven on a traditional Indian handloom, one of the oldest crafts in India, and mounted on cotton. The frame is mango wood. The tones are neutral throughout, running from oatmeal through cream to honey.
