Description

The Ibo sideboard is 117cm wide, 98cm tall and 44cm deep, built from reclaimed wood. Two doors fill the front, each a frame packed with angled horizontal slats and hung on plain iron hinges, with a dark metal pull at the meeting edge and a small catch above and below it. The carcase, the back and the base are boarded in planks that run from pale grey through honey to a darker brown, and the side frames carry on past the base to form a short foot at each corner.

At 98cm this is a tall sideboard, with the top at about worktop height and the shallow 44cm depth keeping it close to the wall. That suits a hallway, the wall behind a dining table, or the run alongside a sofa. Behind the doors a single fixed shelf divides the inside into two bays, and because the doors are slatted rather than solid, air moves through the cabinet whether it holds table linen, glassware or books.

The wood is reclaimed: these boards spent a former life travelling on the exterior of an Indian truck before being cut down and rebuilt as furniture. Knots, splits, old nail holes and saw marks stay in the surface, and the tone shifts from plank to plank within a single door, so no two sideboards are the same. The Ibo range runs to cabinets, console tables, shelves, benches, side tables and mirrors in the same wood.
