Description

A square side table 56cm tall with a 51cm top, built from reclaimed wood left pale and weathered. The top is a thick slab with square cut edges and an uneven surface, split and knotted, and it overhangs the legs on every side. Four square section legs stand slightly splayed, with a stretcher running between them on all four sides partway down. Nothing is stained or filled, so the old tool marks and the greyed surface of the wood are what is left showing.

The top is 51cm square, which takes a lamp, a book and a glass at once, and it stands 56cm off the floor. It sits between a sofa and an armchair. The stretcher frame between the legs sits low enough to rest a foot on or to stack a magazine under. Indoor use only.

The wood is reclaimed, and these boards spent a first life travelling on the outside of an Indian truck before being cut down for furniture. That is where the weathering comes from, and it is why no two tables are the same: the tone of the wood, the roughness of the grain and the pattern of knots and splits all come from where the timber has already been. The Ibo range runs across cabinets, sideboards, console tables, shelves, benches, stools, mirrors and a coffee table in the same wood.
