Description

The Ibo round side table is 45cm tall with a top 45cm across. The top is built from boards laid side by side and cut round, so the joins run straight across the circle and the grain changes direction from board to board. Four legs splay out from under it and meet a cross of stretchers low down, each arm running from one leg to the next. The wood is pale, dry and weathered, carrying saw marks, open splits and darker patches where the boards came from different panels.

At 45cm across, the top takes a cup, a book and a small lamp without crowding. It stands beside a sofa. It works as a low stool as well as a side table, so it will be sat on. It weighs 9.1kg.

The boards come out of the wooden panelling that clads the sides of Indian trucks, cut down and worked by hand into a new piece. That history is what leaves the splits, the saw marks and the shifts of tone across the top, and it is why no two tables come out alike. Indoor use only.
