Description

The Ibo is a low stool built from reclaimed wood, 50cm tall with a top 45cm long and 30cm deep. The top is a single thick slab, dished very slightly along its length and left uneven at the edges. Four legs splay outward in both directions from underneath it, braced by a short rail across each end and a long stretcher down each side, the two long stretchers set at different heights so they pass one another. The timber is pale and dry, carrying saw marks, knots, splits along the grain and patches weathered lighter than the wood around them.

At 50cm tall it works as a seat, a footstool or a small side table. Beside a sofa it takes the place a side table would. The top is 45cm by 30cm, room for a cup and a book rather than a tray, and at 7.3kg the stool is heavy for its size.

The wood is reclaimed. Each piece was cut from the panels that clad the sides of Indian trucks, so every stool carries a different tone, a different run of grain and its own splits and knots. Every one is carved and then put together by hand. Two stools will not match.

Frequently Asked

How tall is it?

50cm, with a top 45cm long and 30cm deep.

Can it be sat on?

Yes. It is built as a stool, and it also works as a footstool and a small side table.

Will every stool look the same?

Not exactly. The wood is reclaimed, so the tone, the grain and the splits differ on every stool.

Can it go outside?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Hand wash only, using a mild dish soap, and do not leave it to soak. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away, as they can damage the finish.
