Description

A bedside table 60cm tall, 40cm wide and 35cm deep, built from reclaimed wood and left pale. The top is a single board with a slight overhang and edges knocked back rather than squared off. Under it sits one drawer with an iron pull on two round back plates, and below that a lower shelf framed into the four legs close to the floor. The wood is rough sawn and open grained, with splits and knots left in it and the weathering of its earlier life still showing.

At 60cm it stands level with the top of most mattresses or a little above, so a lamp and a book on it are within reach from the bed. The 40 by 35cm top takes a lamp and a glass with room to spare, the drawer holds what would otherwise sit out on the top, and the lower shelf is open on all four sides and will take a stack of books or a small basket. At the same height it also works as a side table in a living room.

The wood is reclaimed from the side panels of Indian trucks, cut down and made up again, so each piece carries the tone, the knots and the splits of what it was before and no two tables are alike. Each one is hand carved and then assembled by hand. The pale tone is the wood itself rather than a stain laid over it. The Ibo range also runs to a console table.
