Description

A round wall mirror 110cm across, set into a wide flat frame of reclaimed wood. The frame is built as a ring from short lengths of board butted end to end, so the joins run across it at intervals and the tone changes from one length to the next, pale honey in places and darker brown in others. The grain, the knots and the old marks in the timber are all left in, and the frame runs flat and unmoulded from the outer edge to the glass.

It is a large mirror: 110cm across and 20kg, which is why it has to be fastened securely to the wall rather than hung on a picture hook. Two keyhole plates are fitted to the back, one at either side on the horizontal centre line. It hangs either way up, so the joins in the frame can be turned to sit where they suit the wall. It hangs above a console and stands wider than the console beneath it.

The frame is reclaimed wood taken from panels that once ran on Indian trucks. Every board has had a previous life, so each frame carries its own marks and its own colour and no two are alike. The Ibo round wall mirror is also made at 80cm across, and the range runs on through cabinets, consoles, shelves and tables in the same reclaimed timber.
