Ibo Large Reclaimed Wood & Iron Wall Shelf - Natural

The Ibo is a wall shelf, 120cm wide and 22cm deep, made from a single board of reclaimed wood on two iron brackets. Each bracket is a flat strap: an upright plate drilled for two screws that goes against the wall, a return that runs under the board, and a short lip that turns up over the front edge to hold it. The wood is pale grey-brown, sawn rather than planed, and the face carries knots, splits and old marks. The iron is dark, close to black.

At 120cm the shelf takes a long run of wall. Two will hang one above the other on the same wall. The 22cm depth suits jars and bowls, and boards or trays stand on edge. The lip on the front of each bracket stands proud of the board, so anything on the shelf is held back from the front edge at those two points.

The board is reclaimed wood and the brackets are iron. The wood began as panelling on the outside of an Indian truck and is cut down and re-used rather than milled new, so the weathered tone, the rough texture and the splits in the grain differ from shelf to shelf and no two boards are the same. The Ibo shelf is also made at 80cm wide, at the same height and depth.

Not exactly. Every board is reclaimed, so the tone, the grain and the splits differ from one shelf to the next.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Mild soap and water can be used, but not much water, and always wipe along the grain, taking care over the heaviest texture where the wood can splinter. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it, use mats and coasters under wet items, and soak up any spill straight away.
