Description

A dinner plate 27.5cm across and 2cm deep, made in white clay and glazed, with a wide band of fine indigo lines running out from the well to the edge of the rim. The lines are painted one at a time and they are not all the same length or weight, so the band thickens and thins around the plate. Where they meet the well they finish on a ring of small points.

The pattern sits entirely on the rim, so a served plate keeps its band showing around the edge while the middle stays plain under the food. Twenty seven and a half centimetres is a full dinner plate, and at 2cm it has a rim rather than a well, so a stack of them takes little height in a cupboard. It is dishwasher safe and food safe.

The body is white clay under a glaze. Every piece is shaped and painted by hand in Vietnam, which is why no two plates carry the same count of lines. Iba runs a side plate, cereal and pasta bowls, serving bowls, a butter dish, a jug, mugs and a twelve piece set in the same pattern.
