Description

The Hulverton is a large fringed pendant, 500mm across, with a gold frame and a deep white fringe hanging around the shade. Three lamps sit inside, and the fringe softens their light at the edges so the glow spreads outward rather than cutting off in a hard line. The drop adjusts from 600mm to 1920mm, which covers everything from a low ceiling to a stairwell, so it can serve as a low hung feature or a general ceiling light. At 2.7kg it is lighter than it looks, and white against gold gives it a warm, slightly retro outline.

Fringing suits rooms that already have some softness in them, so a living room with textured cushions, a bedroom with layered curtains, or a dining room where you want the light to feel less hard edged. We would hang it centrally in a good sized room, or lower over a round table where the fringe sits just above eye level and the detail is easy to see. It is a good choice if plain glass and bare metal feel too cold for you.

The frame is metal in a gold finish with the fringe fixed around the lower rim. Three E27 LED lamps of around 10W each light it, and this one is not dimmable, so run it from a standard switch. Care is gentle work, so lift dust from the fringe with a soft brush or a vacuum on low suction, comb the strands straight with your fingers, and dust the gold frame with a dry cloth. Keep water and sprays away from the fringe. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms, and as a Class 1 fitting it needs an earthed supply. Keep the rest of the metalwork in the room gold so the Hulverton settles in.
