Description

The Horn Stack Noughts and Crosses Set is a 28cm square board game with nine stacking pieces crafted from recycled buffalo horn and brass. The board frame is built from wood finished in off-white, with a black velvet-lined interior divided into nine compartments by raised dividers. Each piece sits as a cylindrical stack with a horn body showing natural tonal variation and brass inlay forming the X or O symbol on top.

Designed as both a playable game and a surface ornament for coffee tables, console tables and side cabinets, the set functions as a tactile alternative to digital entertainment in sitting rooms, offices and hospitality spaces. The stacking pieces have enough weight to feel substantial when handled — the full set weighs 1.14kg — while the velvet lining prevents the horn from scratching against the wood compartments during play or storage.

The buffalo horn used in each piece shows different grain patterns and colour shifts from dark charcoal to lighter browns depending on the section of horn it was cut from, so no two sets look identical. The brass inlays contrast against the darker horn tones and develop a patina over time if left unpolished. The 4.5cm board height keeps the set low-profile when displayed on a table surface, with the pieces sitting flush inside the compartments when not in use.

Frequently Asked

Is the horn ethically sourced?

Yes. The buffalo horn used in this set is a by-product of the food industry and is recycled into decorative objects rather than being discarded. No animals are farmed specifically for horn production.

Does the horn vary between sets?

Each piece is cut from natural buffalo horn, so the grain pattern, tonal variation and colour shifts differ between individual sets. This is a characteristic of the natural material, not a defect.

How is the set cleaned?

Wipe the horn pieces gently with a dry, soft cloth. For more stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the horn. The brass inlays can be polished with a standard brass polish if you wish to restore their shine, or left to develop a natural patina.

Can the pieces be stored inside the board?

Yes. The nine compartments inside the board are sized to hold the stacking pieces when not in use, keeping the set compact for storage or display on a shelf.
