Description
The Hodges is a 413mm outdoor wall lantern in ash black with a prairie-style arched roof, a curved metal crown loop, and four clear seeded glass panels surrounding a single E27 bulb fitting. The IP44 rating protects against water splashing from any direction, making it suitable for exposed porch positions, garage entrances, and garden walls.
Designed for mounting beside front doors, along covered walkways, or on garden walls where overhead cover exists, the Hodges provides both functional light and architectural detail. The 194mm projection from the wall gives clearance for the glass box and bulb without overwhelming narrow porch spaces. The arched metal roof curves over the glass panels in a nod to American prairie lanterns from the early 20th century, softened here with contemporary proportions.
The clear seeded glass carries small air bubbles throughout each pane, diffusing the light from the E27 bulb inside and reducing glare when viewed directly. The ash black finish shows a slightly textured surface rather than a flat powder coat, giving depth under daylight and reducing fingerprint visibility when cleaning. The metal frame, glass and back plate combine to give the lantern enough physical presence to anchor a doorway or porch entrance without needing paired fixtures.

Frequently Asked
What IP rating does the Hodges carry and where can it be used?
The Hodges is IP44 rated, meaning it's protected against solid objects over 1mm and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for covered porches, garage entrances, and garden walls with overhead protection, but it should not be mounted in fully exposed positions with no overhead cover.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 6-10W and 2200K-2700K to complement the seeded glass and prairie design.
What does 'seeded glass' mean?
Seeded glass contains small air bubbles distributed throughout each pane during manufacture. These bubbles diffuse the light from the bulb, reducing glare and creating a softer glow compared to clear glass without seeding.
How is the lantern fixed to the wall?
The Hodges mounts via a flat metal back plate that fixes to the wall with screws (not supplied). The electrical cable passes through the back plate to connect to the lantern's internal wiring. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician and comply with UK wiring regulations.
