Description

The Haldmere linear pendant runs five grey tinted glass spheres along a matt black bar, spacing them out so the light falls evenly down the length of a table. The bar measures 1620mm long and 445mm deep, and the adjustable stem sets the overall height between 835mm and 935mm. Five E14 lampholders take 7W LED bulbs, and the fitting is dimmable when the bulbs and dimmer switch are matched to one another. It weighs 3.7kg, is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms and is a Class 2 fitting, so no earth is needed at the ceiling.

At over a metre and a half long, this is a light for a kitchen island or a long dining table, where the spread along the bar puts light on the whole working surface instead of the middle of it. We would leave roughly 700mm to 800mm of clear space above a worktop so the glass sits above sightlines. The tinted spheres keep five bulbs from turning into five bright points, and dimming brings the level down once the cooking is done. In a long room it also suits a run above a bench seat or a sideboard.

The bar, stem and ceiling plate are metal in matt black, and the spheres are smoked glass with a grey tint. Dust the bar with a dry soft cloth and wipe the glass with a barely damp one, drying it at once and keeping sprays away from the matt paint. The stem is rigid, so once it is set the bar stays level rather than drifting. Elsewhere in the Haldmere range the same glass appears on a six light cluster, a single pendant, a semi-flush ceiling light and a wall light, which helps tie a kitchen to the room next door.
