Description

The Haldmere gathers six grey tinted glass spheres on a matt black frame, so the light comes from a spread of soft points rather than from one central shade. The fitting spans 860mm in both directions and the stem adjusts between 1000mm and 1270mm, so the whole cluster can be raised or dropped to suit the ceiling. Six E14 lampholders take 7W LED bulbs, and the pendant is dimmable with a compatible dimmer switch. It weighs 4.1kg and is rated IP20, which keeps it to dry indoor rooms.

A cluster of this width is a room centrepiece, best over a dining table, in a double height hallway, or above a stairwell where you can look at it from more than one level. Tinted glass shows the bulb as a soft glow rather than a bare filament, so the light stays easy on the eye even at full brightness. Matt black reads as modern but behaves like a neutral, sitting quietly against white, grey or deep green walls. With dimming on the circuit, the same pendant light covers a busy meal and a slow evening.

The frame, stem and ceiling plate are metal in a matt black finish, and each sphere is smoked glass with a grey cast that deepens where the curve thickens. Dust the metal with a dry soft cloth, then wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it straight away, keeping sprays and abrasives away from the matt paint. It is a Class 2 fitting so no earth is needed, but do check the ceiling fixing against the weight.
