Description

This is a serving platter shaped as a whole fish, made from 100% stoneware and finished in a glossy green glaze. The colour runs deeper along the middle of the body and breaks into a paler mottle towards the edges, so the surface looks almost like scales catching the light. The head, fins and fanned tail are modelled in the stoneware itself, with fine ridges raked through the tail and a small eye at the head. It measures 42cm long, 13cm wide and 3.5cm tall: a long, slim platter with a low raised rim rather than a broad, flat one, and at 0.56KG it is easy to carry to the table.

It is food safe, so it can go straight from the kitchen to the table with food on it. The long, narrow shape suits the things that come in lines: grilled sardines, smoked salmon, asparagus spears, sliced tomatoes, a row of cheeses or a scattering of lemon halves with rosemary. Set down the middle of a dining table it works as a centrepiece for a seafood supper, a summer lunch or a relaxed weekend spread, and it sits well on a narrow sideboard or a kitchen island where a round platter would take up too much room.
