Description
Our granny salt and pepper shakers are a pair of small stoneware figures with plenty of personality. One is a bearded grandfather with a full moustache, bushy eyebrows and a striped coat. The other is his granny, her hair swept neatly back, lips pursed, in a spotted top. Both have closed, smiling eyes and blushing cheeks, and the faces are embossed, so the noses, brows and beard stand up from the surface rather than sitting flat. Each shaker is 5.5cm across and 8cm tall, an easy size to pick up and shake with one hand, and the tops are pierced with small holes. They are red, which suits a Christmas table straight away.
These are made for the festive season, and they earn their place from the first December breakfast to the last plate of Christmas leftovers. Set them in the middle of the dinner table where everyone can reach them, or keep them beside the hob in the kitchen through the holidays. Their small footprint lets them fit on a crowded table among serving dishes and crackers without getting in the way. They also make a cheerful gift for grandparents, for whoever is hosting Christmas, or for anyone who likes their seasonal decorations to be useful as well as fun.
Each shaker is made of 99% stoneware and 1% silicone, and the finish is painted by hand, which is where the warmth in those faces comes from. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, well suited to pieces that are handled at every meal. They go in the dishwasher, so the clean-up after a big festive lunch is no trouble, and they can go in the microwave, though they are not for the oven. For the table, stand them side by side as a couple facing your guests, and keep the plates around them plain so the painted details do the talking.

Yes. Both shakers go in the dishwasher, and they can also go in the microwave, but they should not go in the oven.

How many shakers do I get?
You receive two shakers sold together as a set of 2: a bearded grandfather in a striped coat and a granny in a spotted top.
Are they only for Christmas?
They are made with Christmas in mind, but there is nothing to stop you keeping them out on the kitchen or breakfast table all through the winter.
