Description

A square cushion cover, 65 x 65cm, woven in merino wool and cotton. The face divides into three vertical panels: plain ivory at either side in a fine looped weave, and a wider central band carrying stacked diamonds in a soft stone tone against the ivory ground. The diamonds are outlined twice and filled with smaller diamond and cross motifs, and the pattern is woven in rather than printed, so the central band sits slightly proud of the plain panels.

At 65 x 65cm this is one of the larger square cushions. Upright against the pillows on a bed it fills most of the height of a headboard, and that is the placement it takes: the back row on a bed, or the corner of a deep sofa with smaller cushions set in front of it. The palette runs ivory to stone with nothing brighter in it, so the pattern reads as texture from across a room and only resolves into diamonds close up.

The yarn is an RWS certified merino wool blend with cotton, cleaned and spun before it is woven in India on jacquard looms. The jacquard weave is what puts the diamonds into the fabric rather than onto it, and it is what gives the central band its raised texture. Girja is made in this one size and this one colourway.
