Description

A footed stand in mango wood, 30cm across and 14cm tall. The top is a shallow round dish with a raised lip, and its outer edge is carved into close vertical flutes cut by hand, so the depth and the width of each one varies round the rim and the circle itself is not quite true. The dish sits on a solid pedestal that narrows at the top and widens towards the base. The wood runs from pale blond at the rim to a deeper honey through the middle of the dish.

At 14cm the stand raises what is on it above the level of the table, and at 30cm across the dish holds a whole cake, a round loaf, or a spread of small things laid out flat. The foot is much narrower than the dish, so the stand takes up little of the surface it stands on even though the top is wide.

Mango wood throughout, and food safe. The fluted edge is carved by hand, so no two stands carry the same rhythm of cuts. Mango varies widely in tone from one piece to the next, so no two stands are alike, and the colour will keep moving with use. The Gavivi is made in two sizes, 30cm and 35.5cm across.
