Description

A footed stand 35.5cm across on a column that brings the whole thing to 28cm tall. The top is a wide shallow dish with a raised lip, and the band round its edge is carved into close, fine flutes, many of them and narrow. The foot is a tall cylinder, barely tapered, drawn in a little where it meets the dish and running straight down to a flat base of almost the same width. The grain runs up the column and takes in a knot on one face.

At 28cm tall this stands well above what is around it, and it stands behind the shorter Gavivi on a worktop. The dish is 35.5cm across, wide enough for a large cake, a stack of scones or a whole round of bread. The column is narrow against the width of the top, so a low dish set beside the stand is not hidden by its foot.

Mango wood, and food safe. The flutes round the edge are cut by hand, so their spacing and their depth change round the circle and no two stands carry the same edge. The wood on this size runs honey to mid-brown, with the figure of the grain and any knots left visible rather than worked out. The Gavivi is made in two sizes, and this is the taller of them. The colour of the wood will change as it is used.
