Description

A framed textile panel, 60cm high by 40cm wide and 5cm deep. The textile is a handwoven kilim worked in blocks and bands: a square of coarse natural weave at the top left, a run of fine vertical stripes in cream and brown across the middle, and two darker brown blocks along the bottom with cream between them. The joins between panels are left visible as a line of running stitch. The frame is plain mango wood, pale, with the grain showing through, and the weave is held open to the front rather than set behind glass.

At 60 by 40cm this hangs on its own above a console, a chest of drawers or a desk, and it is made to hang either portrait or landscape. The weave stands proud in the frame, so it takes side light across the surface and the ridges of the stripes show up. It weighs 2.8kg and hangs on the wall.

The textile is handwoven from hemp and cotton on a wooden loom, in the kilim manner, so the design is built through the weave rather than printed onto it. It is framed in mango wood. The colours are the natural tones of the fibres, running from pale cream through to a mid brown, and the panel is sold ready to hang.
