Description

A standing tree 30cm tall on a 21cm square footprint, built from four tall triangular panels of antiqued mirror glass set into a soldered metal frame and arranged in a cross around a central spine. The frames run up each edge to a single point at the top, and at the bottom the four corners drop below the lower edge of the panels, so the tree stands on them. The silvering is weathered and patchy, dark in places and pale in others, closer to frost than to a mirror.

It stands rather than hangs, so it goes on a mantelpiece, a sideboard or a hall table rather than on a tree. Thirty centimetres tall on a 21cm square footprint is enough to hold a corner on its own. Mirror glass returns what is in front of it, so what shows in the panels is the room and whatever light is in it.

The panels are antique-style mirror glass, treated with a mercury finish and weathered to a frosted patina. The frame is shaped and soldered by hand, so the joins show along every edge and no two trees carry the weathering the same way. Gacha also runs at 20cm tall on a 16cm square footprint.
