Description

The Danta folding frame is two glass panels hinged together, each one 13cm wide and 18cm tall and each taking a 5 by 7 inch photograph in portrait. Brass channel is soldered around the edge of every panel and along the hinge, and the solder is left as it falls, so the joins show as darker marks along the metal. Both panels are clear glass front and back, with no backing board behind the photograph.

It stands on its own. A wire strut folds out from the back of each panel, and the hinge lets the two panels stand at an angle to each other so the frame holds itself up on a shelf, a desk or a mantelpiece. It is not made to hang on a wall. Because the glass is clear on both sides, whatever goes between the panels shows from the back as well as the front, so pressed ferns and torn paper suit it as well as prints.

The frame is brass and glass. Each one is soldered around the glass by hand with traditional tools, so the weld marks along the joins differ from frame to frame, and the brass is left as it comes rather than brought to an even shine. The Danta folding frame is also made to take an 8 by 10 inch photograph.

Frequently Asked

What size photograph does it take?

5 by 7 inches, in portrait.

How many photographs does it hold?

Two. It is a folding frame with a panel on each side of the hinge.

Does it stand or hang?

It stands. A wire strut folds out from the back of each panel, and it is not made to hang on a wall.

Is the glass clear on both sides?

Yes. Whatever is placed between the panels can be seen from the back as well as the front.

Why are there marks along the metal?

The brass is soldered around the glass by hand, and the weld marks at the joins are left showing rather than worked away.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it over with a soft dry cloth so dust does not build up, and use a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass.
