Description

This is a deep, fluted bowl in cream stoneware, 14cm across and 7cm tall, and it holds 550ml. That capacity makes it a generous everyday bowl for cereal, porridge, soup or a side salad, rather than a little dish for dips. Its sides are gently ribbed from foot to rim, and a reactive glaze runs over every rib, leaving fine streaks of a deeper tone that rise from the base and gather in a thin band around the rim. The cream reads soft and warm, and sits easily beside plain plates or older pieces already in the cupboard.

Most of its life will be spent at the kitchen table: breakfast on a weekday, soup at lunch, noodles or a grain bowl in the evening. At 14cm across it sits neatly on a dinner plate, so it can form the top layer of a place setting when friends come for supper. On a drinks table it is the right size for olives, crisps or roasted nuts, and on the worktop it will hold a few eggs or a lemon or two while you cook. It suits anyone who likes everyday tableware with some texture and character, without anything fussy.

It is made entirely of stoneware, a dense and hard-wearing ceramic, and weighs 0.5KG, so it feels substantial without being heavy. It goes in the dishwasher and the microwave, which makes reheating a portion and clearing up afterwards simple, and it can go in the oven too, for an individual crumble or a small gratin. A reactive glaze shifts as it fires, so the streaks settle a little differently on every piece; that variation is part of the finish rather than a flaw. For the table, set it on a plain plate and tuck a folded linen napkin inside until the food is ready.

Frequently Asked

What is the bowl made of?

It is made of 100% stoneware, finished with a reactive glaze that leaves fine streaks over its ribbed sides.

How big is it and how much does it hold?

It is 14cm across and 7cm tall and holds 550ml, a comfortable size for cereal, soup, porridge or a side salad.

Can it go in the dishwasher and the microwave?

Yes, it goes in both the dishwasher and the microwave, so you can reheat a portion in it and wash it afterwards with everything else.

Can I use it in the oven?

Yes, it can go in the oven, which makes it handy for an individual baked pudding, a small gratin or keeping a portion warm.

Is every bowl exactly the same?

Not quite. A reactive glaze moves as it fires, so the streaks on each bowl settle a little differently, and no two are identical.

How heavy is it?

It weighs 0.5KG, which gives it a steady, reassuring feel on the table without making it awkward to lift.
