Description

Filur is a three-piece children's dinner set in stoneware: a plate, a bowl and a cup, each painted by hand with a multicoloured pattern of rainbow arches, flower shapes and loose abstract forms. The plate is 19cm across and 2cm tall, a sensible size for a child's meal without the wide expanse of an adult dinner plate. The bowl is 11cm across and 6.5cm tall, deep enough for a portion of cereal, porridge or soup. The cup is 9cm tall and 7cm across with no handle, so it is held like a beaker.

It belongs at the kitchen table for everyday breakfasts, lunches and teas, giving a child crockery of their own that looks nothing like the plain plates the grown-ups use. The pattern runs across the face of the plate and around the outside of the bowl and cup, so there is always a rainbow or a flower to spot and name while the meal disappears. Because the three pieces come together as a matching place setting, it also makes a well-judged birthday present, and a practical one, since it is meant for daily use rather than display.

All three pieces are 100% stoneware, a clay fired at high temperature that is dense and feels solid in the hand. The pattern is handpainted, and the brushwork shows: the shapes have soft edges, they fall a little differently on each piece, and the rims are gently uneven rather than machine-perfect. The inside of the bowl and cup is left plain, which keeps the food itself easy to see. Care is simple, because the plate, bowl and cup all go in the dishwasher and the microwave, and the oven as well, so a portion of leftovers can be reheated in the bowl itself. On the table, set the multicoloured pieces against plain wood or a simple linen cloth and let the pattern carry the setting.

Frequently Asked

What comes in the set?

You receive three matching pieces: a plate 19cm across, a bowl 11cm across and a cup 9cm tall. The styling props shown are not included.

Can it go in the dishwasher, microwave and oven?

Yes. The maker lists all three pieces as suitable for the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, which keeps washing up and reheating simple.

What is it made from?

All three pieces are 100% stoneware with a handpainted pattern, so the shapes fall a little differently on each piece and the rims are gently uneven.

How big is the bowl?

The bowl is 11cm across and 6.5cm tall, a child's portion size that suits cereal, porridge, yoghurt or a small helping of pasta.

Does the cup have a handle?

No. The cup is a handleless beaker shape, 9cm tall and 7cm across, which a child can grip with both hands for milk, water or juice.
