Description

This is a set of three handpainted stoneware bowls, each 11.5cm across and 6cm tall, and each with a pattern of its own. One carries fine stripes, one large dots and one a loose abstract motif, and every bowl changes to a contrasting colour inside, where the brush marks swirl round from the rim to the centre. Together they make a cheerful multicoloured trio for the table. The capacity is 550ml, which makes these a generous everyday bowl rather than a small dish for dips: there is room for cereal, porridge or a good ladle of soup.

Set them out at breakfast and nobody needs to ask whose bowl is whose. They suit a family kitchen, a first flat or anyone who likes a bit of pattern at mealtimes, and they work just as well for rice, noodles, yoghurt with fruit or a pudding when friends come for dinner. Because they go in the microwave, last night's leftovers can be warmed in the same bowl from which you eat them, and because they go in the oven too, a small crumble or baked custard can be made in each one and carried straight to the table.

The bowls are 100% stoneware, a dense ceramic that holds heat well, and each one is painted by hand, with the brush marks left in view.
