Description

A pressed glass egg, 13cm tall and 10cm across, that divides at the waist into a pointed lid and a bowl below it. The relief covers the whole surface: close-set diamonds over the body and the dome, and a raised band of scrollwork running round the join between them. The glass is clear, so the contents read through it before the lid comes off.

The bowl half is the useful part, deep enough for a handful of sweets, and the lid sits back down over it. At 13cm tall it suits a place setting, a bedside table or a shelf rather than the middle of a table.

The glass is recycled. It is melted, shaped into the egg form, and then pressed with the pattern while it is still hot, so the relief comes out sharper on some pieces than on others. The whole piece is glass, and it weighs 0.225kg. The same egg is made in a larger size.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

13cm tall and 10cm across. It is the smaller of the two sizes.

Does it come apart?

Yes, at the seam. The pointed top comes off a bowl.

What is it made from?

Recycled glass, pressed with the pattern while it is still hot.

What can it hold?

Sweets, chocolates or small keepsakes.

How should it be looked after?

Take off any built up dust with a dry, soft cloth, and handle it with care. Harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners will damage the finish. It is for indoor use only.
