Description

A set of four hanging egg decorations blown from recycled glass and left clear. A pattern is pressed into the whole surface, an ornate scrolling relief over a finely pebbled ground, so the glass throws the light about rather than simply letting it through. Each egg stands 6cm from the cap to the tip and measures 4cm through at the widest point. The top carries a small metal crown with a scalloped edge, and a plain ring sits above that.

Clear glass behaves differently from a solid decoration. With the pattern pressed right through, the eggs read bright where the light is behind them and almost disappear where it is not, which is why they suit a branch by a window. They also go along a place setting or tied onto gift wrapping, and at 4cm across they sit close together without crowding a small display.

The glass is recycled and every egg is blown by hand before the pattern is pressed in, so the relief sits at a slightly different depth on each one. The caps are iron. The Essan range also holds a recycled glass opening egg, in two sizes.
