Description

A round wall clock, 41cm across and 2.5cm deep, with a face built up from small pieces of mango wood laid in chevrons that radiate out from the centre. Each piece takes the grain in a different direction, so the face shifts from pale cream through to mid brown depending on which block the light falls across. There are no numerals: two slim brass hands turn over four short brass bars set into the face at twelve, three, six and nine.

At 41cm it reads from across a room rather than only from beside it, and the face is open, with no glass over it. It hangs from a plate on the back and sits close to the wall at 2.5cm deep. It hangs on its own, with nothing beside it.

The face is made from small pieces of mango wood, off cuts from furniture making, which is what gives the patchwork its range of tone and what keeps the offcuts out of the waste. The blocks fall differently on every clock, so no two faces come out the same. Enugu is made in this one size.
