Description

The English Bridle is a 622mm outdoor wall lantern with three E14 bulb holders housed inside a cage-style frame finished in bronze, with clear seeded glass panels and decorative rope detailing cast into the metalwork. The lantern mounts on a scrolled backplate and projects 325mm from the wall, giving substantial presence on larger facades, porches and covered outdoor areas.

Designed for UK outdoor use with an IP44 rating, the lantern is suitable for covered porches, patio walls, carriage entrances and garden walls where the fitting is protected from direct rainfall by an overhang or canopy. The seeded glass diffuses light from the three E14 bulbs (sold separately, max 60W each) while the bronze frame casts shadow patterns onto adjacent walls and paving when lit at night.

The bronze finish is a textured patinated metal rather than a polished surface, giving depth and variation that suits both traditional brick and stone facades and contemporary render finishes where contrast is needed. The rope detailing on the frame and the scrolled backplate reference coaching lantern designs from the 18th century, while the overall proportions work on facades with eaves heights of 2.7m or above. Is this suitable for fully exposed outdoor walls?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, but the lantern is designed for covered locations such as porches, canopies and eaves overhangs where it is shielded from direct rainfall. Fully exposed walls require IP65 or higher.

What bulbs does it take?

Three E14 bulbs up to 60W each (sold separately). Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K to suit the traditional styling. Clear filament-style LEDs work well with the seeded glass.

What wall fixings are needed?

The backplate mounts via two fixing points spaced approximately 120mm apart vertically. Use wall plugs and screws appropriate to your wall material — typically M8 fixings for brick or stone. The complete fitting weighs approximately 3-4kg.

Can the glass be replaced if damaged?

The seeded glass panels are held in the metal frame with clips. Replacement glass is available as a spare part from Feiss — contact Niori with the SKU (FE-EB2-L-BRB) to order.
