Description
The English Bridle is a 502mm outdoor wall lantern with three E14 bulb fittings housed inside a cage-frame finished in aged bronze, topped with a domed bronze cap and scrollwork wall bracket. The oval glass panels use clear seeded glass, giving a textured, bubble-pocked appearance that diffuses light without blocking it entirely. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing from any direction, making the lantern suitable for exposed exterior walls, covered porches and open-sided verandas.
Designed for front door surrounds, patio walls and garden entrances on traditional and transitional homes, the lantern mounts on a decorative backplate with a rope-twist border pattern matching the trim bands on the main body. The 267mm projection clears render and brick facings comfortably, while the 216mm width suits medium-scale residential exteriors without overwhelming smaller doorways. The three E14 bulbs (sold separately) give enough light to illuminate a 3-4m porch area when fitted with 40W or 60W equivalents.
The aged bronze finish shows lighter copper-brown tones on raised details and darker oxidised patina in recesses, giving the lantern a weathered manor-house appearance rather than the uniform coating typical of standard outdoor fittings. The seeded glass panels show varying densities of seed bubbles, so light distribution varies slightly depending on which section of the glass sheet each panel was cut from. The combined metal cage, glass panels and canopy give the fitting a substantial presence that suits stone, brick, render and painted wood exteriors.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does it take?
The lantern takes three E14 small Edison screw bulbs, each up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W per socket and 2700K-3000K for a traditional incandescent appearance.
Can it be used in fully exposed positions?
Yes. The IP44 rating protects against rain and splashing from any direction, so the lantern can be fitted to fully exposed exterior walls, not just under eaves or covered porches.
What's the difference between the bronze and black versions?
The bronze version shows a warm copper-brown aged finish with darker patina in recesses. The black version uses a uniform matt black coating. Both use the same seeded glass panels and carry the same IP44 rating.
How is the glass cleaned?
The seeded glass panels trap dust in the seed pockets over time. Clean by removing the lower finial cap (unscrews counter-clockwise), lifting out each glass panel, wiping with a damp microfibre cloth and distilled water, then reassembling once dry.
