Description

This is Energizer's Vision HD+ Focus head torch, and the figure on the front of the pack is 400 lumens. The part that matters more day to day is the digital focus: one control narrows the beam to a spot or widens it to a flood, so you are not swapping torches when you move from reading a meter to walking a path. The pack shows five modes, including a red light, and a beam reaching 85m. Three AAA alkaline batteries are in the box, and the pack quotes 3h of runtime from them.

A head torch earns its place wherever you need both hands. That is loft hatches and fuse boxes, the back of a boiler, a bike chain at dusk, tent pegs, fishing at first light, and the winter dog walk where a hand torch means no spare hand for the lead. The red mode is the one people overlook: it keeps night vision intact and is far less blinding for anyone facing you, so it suits campsites, shared tents and reading a map. Keep it in the car or the kitchen drawer and it doubles as the household torch for a power cut.

The lamp head sits in the middle of a wide band, and the front carries three round lenses, a larger one in the centre with a smaller one either side, plus a red lens above them. The pack prints IPX4, which is a water splash figure only; the X stands in for a dust figure the manufacturer does not quote, so we do not claim one. Because the cells are ordinary AAA rather than a sealed battery pack, there is nothing to charge and nothing to wait for, and a spare three in the rucksack keeps you going. Yes. Three AAA alkaline cells are supplied in the pack, so it works as soon as you unwrap it, and replacements are the ordinary AAA cells sold everywhere.

How long will it run on one set of batteries?

The pack quotes 3h. As with any battery light, a lower output setting will run longer than the brightest one, so treat the figure as the headline rather than the whole story.

What does the digital focus actually do?

The pack states that it adjusts beam shape, so you can pull the light into a narrow spot for distance or spread it wide for close work without changing torches.

Can I use it in the rain?

The pack prints IPX4, which is a splash rating rather than an immersion rating, and no dust figure is quoted. We would not submerge it or leave it standing in water.

Is the brightness dimmable?

The pack lists five modes rather than a dimmer, and neither the manufacturer specification nor the pack mentions dimming, so we make no dimming claim for it.

What colour temperature is the light?
