Description

Energizer builds the Hardcase Professional torches for work rather than for the drawer, and the Project Plus is the 400 lumen model in that line. The output is adjustable: the pack shows a dimming range from 10 per cent up to 100 per cent, so the same torch gives you a low glow for reading a meter and full power for a dark yard. The pack also prints a 7m drop rating and an IPX4 water rating. The body is black with moulded grey grip panels down each side and red detailing at the switch and the tail.

A torch of this size lives in a van door pocket, a toolbox, a kitchen drawer or a rucksack. Four hundred lumens is a genuinely useful working figure: enough to light a loft space, a fuse board, an engine bay or the length of a garden path. The dimming matters more than it sounds. Close work at full output bounces glare back at you off pale surfaces, and winding it down keeps the detail in front of you readable.

Four AA alkaline cells are supplied with the torch, so it works the moment it comes out of the pack, and AA is among the easiest sizes to replace at short notice. Energizer does not print a runtime figure, so we do not quote one; as with any battery torch, a lower brightness setting will stretch a set of cells further than full output does.
