Description

This is the standard GLS bulb: the rounded household shape most people picture when they think of a light bulb, here built as an LED behind a smooth frosted cover. The cap is E27, the larger of the two common screw fittings, and the lamp draws 8.8W to give 806 lumens. Colour temperature is 3000K warm white, which reads as a soft domestic light rather than the crisper white used in kitchens and workshops. The retail pack rates it as a replacement for a 60W filament bulb, so the brightness should land close to the lamp it takes over from. Two bulbs come in the box.

GLS is the shape table lamps, pendants and standard lamps were designed around, so it sits naturally under a fabric drum shade, in a hallway pendant or in a bedside lamp. Warm white at 3000K suits rooms where the light should feel settled in the evening: living rooms, bedrooms, landings and dining areas. If the other lamps in a room are 2700K or 4000K you will notice the difference when they are all on, so it is worth matching the figure across a room rather than mixing them. The pack gives the 806 lumens as being in a sphere, so the output spreads around the bulb rather than being thrown forward.

This lamp is not dimmable, so put it on an ordinary on-off switch and keep a dimmable bulb for any circuit with a rotary or trailing edge dimmer on it. IP20 means indoor use in dry positions, with no protection against water. The pack prints an F energy class and a ten year lifespan. Each box holds two bulbs and the minimum order is six boxes, twelve bulbs in all, which is useful if you are relamping a whole floor at once. Will this fit my lamp, and how do I check the cap?

It takes an E27 screw fitting, the larger of the two common screw caps at 27mm across the thread. Hold your old bulb up: if the screw thread is noticeably narrower, that is E14 and this will not fit.

Is 806 lumens really enough to replace a 60W bulb?

The pack rates it as a 60W replacement, and 806 lumens is the output a traditional 60W household filament lamp gave, so a straight swap should read as much the same brightness in the room.

Can I put it on a dimmer switch?

No. It is listed as non-dimmable, so it belongs on an ordinary on-off switch. On a dimmer circuit a non-dimmable LED may flicker, buzz or simply refuse to respond to the dial.

What does 3000K warm white actually look like?

It is a soft, comfortable domestic white: warmer and yellower than a 4000K cool white, and a shade crisper and cleaner than the very mellow 2700K bulbs often used in bedrooms.

Can I use it outdoors or in a damp spot?

No. The IP20 rating means it has no protection against water, so keep it to dry indoor positions in an enclosure suited to the location.

How many bulbs do I receive, and what is the smallest order?

One unit is a box containing two bulbs. The minimum order is six boxes, sold in multiples of six, so the smallest purchase brings you twelve bulbs.
