Description
The Energizer 6W LED PLT/E is a compact 4-pin bulb with a GX24q base, designed as a direct retrofit for older 18W compact fluorescent PLT/E fittings. The lamp delivers 1260 lumens at 4000K cool white, providing bright, neutral task lighting at one-third the energy consumption of the CFL it replaces. The four-pin configuration requires the existing ballast to be bypassed or the fitting to be compatible with direct-to-mains LED operation.
Suited to commercial stairwells, corridor downlights, office task lighting and utility areas where cool white output aids visibility, the bulb produces instant full-brightness light without the warm-up period of fluorescent tubes. The compact twin-tube PLS shape fits within the envelope of standard PLT/E fixtures, so existing luminaire housings and diffusers remain compatible. The 4000K colour temperature sits between warm domestic white and clinical daylight, making it a practical choice for retail, hospitality back-of-house, and residential garage or workshop fittings.
The non-dimmable LED driver inside the bulb requires a constant 230V mains supply and will not function correctly with dimmer switches or analogue controls. Energy Rating D under current UK regulations places this bulb in the mid-efficiency band for LED retrofit lamps, reflecting the trade-off between compact size and luminous efficacy. The rated 30-year lifespan assumes typical commercial use of 3 hours per day, reducing maintenance frequency in fittings where bulb access requires ladders or scaffolding.

Frequently Asked
Will this bulb work in my existing PLT/E fitting?
The GX24q base is a 4-pin fitting. If your existing lamp has four pins at the base, this Energizer LED is a direct physical fit. However, most older PLT/E fittings contain a ballast designed for fluorescent tubes. To use this LED bulb, the ballast must either be bypassed to connect the bulb directly to mains, or the fitting must already be LED-compatible. Check with an electrician if you are unsure.
What does 4000K cool white look like?
4000K sits between warm white (2700K-3000K) and daylight (5000K-6500K). It produces a neutral, slightly crisp white light that enhances visibility without the yellow cast of warm white or the blue tint of daylight. It is commonly used in offices, retail, workshops and commercial kitchens.
Can I use this bulb with a dimmer switch?
No. This bulb is non-dimmable and must be used on a standard on/off switch with constant 230V mains. Installing it behind a dimmer will cause flickering, buzzing or failure of the internal LED driver.
How does the lifespan compare to a CFL?
Energizer rates this LED at 30 years based on 3 hours of daily use. A typical 18W CFL PLT/E lamp lasts around 8,000-10,000 hours, or roughly 7-9 years under the same usage pattern. The LED also starts instantly at full brightness, whereas CFLs can take 30-60 seconds to reach full output when cold.
