B22 (BC) LED Filament GLS Bulb 4W 470lm - Warm White 2700K - Energizer

This is a 4W LED filament bulb in the traditional GLS shape, fitted with a B22 bayonet cap. Behind the clear glass sit four slim filament strips arranged in a fan, so the light source itself is part of the look rather than hidden behind a frosted coating. It puts out 470 lumens at 2700K warm white, and the retail pack gives it as a replacement for a 40W incandescent bulb. The beam spreads across 320 degrees, close to the all-round throw of the glass bulb it stands in for.

A clear filament bulb is worth choosing where the bulb itself is on show: an open pendant, a bare flex, a glass shade, a table lamp whose shade sits high. Fitted into a shade that hides it, the filaments are wasted and a frosted lamp would do the same job. The 2700K figure is the warm, faintly yellow light most people think of as ordinary household lighting, so it sits comfortably in a sitting room, a bedroom or a hallway, and it will match older tungsten bulbs elsewhere in the same room. The rating is IP20, so this is a lamp for dry indoor fittings only.

There is no dimming: the pack marks it non-dimmable, so put it on a plain on/off switch and keep dimmer circuits for a lamp rated for them. Will this fit my light fitting?

It takes a B22 bayonet cap, the two-pin push and twist fitting. Check the old bulb has two small pins on the side of a metal cap rather than a screw thread.

Can I use it on a dimmer switch?

No. The pack marks this bulb non-dimmable, so it belongs on a plain on/off switch. On a dimmer circuit a non-dimmable lamp may buzz, flicker or fail to start at all.

How bright is 4W against the bulb I am replacing?

It gives 470 lumens, and the pack rates that as the equivalent of a 40W incandescent bulb, so it suits a bedside lamp, a hallway or a multi-lamp pendant rather than a single main light in a large room.

What does 2700K warm white actually look like?

It is the soft, slightly yellow light of an old tungsten bulb rather than the crisp blue-white of a 4000K or 6500K lamp. It flatters wood, warm paint colours and skin tones in the evening.

Does it light all round or throw in one direction?

The beam angle is 320 degrees, so light goes almost everywhere around the glass. That makes it a sensible choice for open pendants and shades that need light thrown upwards as well as down.
