Description

This is a 10W LED lamp built to take the place of a four pin compact fluorescent PL-T, and the pack puts the equivalence at 32W. It gives 1375 lumens at 4000K, a cool white that sits between the yellow of a warm bulb and the blue edge of daylight, and it carries a D energy rating. The cap is GX24q, the four pin version, with four flat pins set in a keyed white base. Energizer prints a 30,000 hour lifespan on the box. It is not dimmable.

GX24q caps turn up in recessed ceiling downlights, wall washers and compact commercial fittings, so this suits office ceilings, shop floors, stairwells, corridors, hallways, garages and utility rooms. Check the cap on the old lamp rather than the fitting before you order: a four pin GX24q will not seat in a two pin GX24d holder, and the cap code is usually printed on the base of the lamp you are taking out. At 4000K the light reads clean and neutral, which suits anywhere you want to see clearly, such as worktops, stock shelving and entrance areas. It is a poor match for a sitting room, where 2700K warm white is the usual choice.

Settle one thing before you buy. The pack says the lamp is not compatible with an electronic ballast, so the existing control gear has to be removed and the lampholder wired direct to the mains, work the pack asks a qualified electrician to carry out to BS7671. There is no dimming, so keep it on a plain switch circuit. Energizer prints no IP rating, so treat it as a lamp for dry indoor positions. Will this fit a two pin GX24d holder?

No. This is the four pin GX24q version, and the two pin and four pin bases are not interchangeable, so count the pins on the lamp you are removing before you order.

Do I have to remove the ballast?

Yes. The pack states the lamp is not compatible with an electronic ballast, so the control gear must be taken out and the holder wired direct to the mains by a qualified electrician working to BS7671.

Can I use it on a dimmer?
