Endo Small Reclaimed Iron Hanging Planter - Black

The Endo hanging planter is a pot of reclaimed iron, 14.5cm tall and 18.5cm across the rim. The sides draw in a little as they fall and then swell out into a rounded base, so the pot reads heavier at the bottom than at the top. Three holes are punched below the rim and a thin leather cord is knotted through each one, the three rising to a single knot above. The iron is left dark and unevenly toned, graphite in places and near black in others, with a band of warm copper running round the lower curve.

A hanging planter goes where a shelf or a sill has run out: the corner of a window recess, the end of a run of kitchen units, the side of a bathroom window. Hung in pairs at different lengths, one will take a small cactus and the other a staghorn fern whose fronds drop well below the pot. Hung at head height or above, the rounded underside is the part that is seen, and the copper band round it is what catches the light. The pot holds 3000ml.

The pot is reclaimed iron and the cords are leather. The dark tone comes out of the metal itself and the patina it carries rather than from a coat of paint, so the balance of black, grey and copper is different on every pot. How does it hang?

Three leather cords are knotted through holes punched below the rim and gathered into one knot above. There is no hook or ring.

3000ml. The pot is 14.5cm tall and 18.5cm across.

Can a plant go straight into it?

Use plants that need only light watering or spraying, unless an inner pot goes inside it.

Can it go outside?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?

Clean it regularly with warm water and a mild dish soap, do not leave it to soak, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from it.
