Description

A globe of recycled iron, 21cm tall and 19cm across, flattened top and bottom so it stands without a foot, with a short straight collar set on at the top. A broad band of solder runs right round the middle where the two halves are joined, thick and irregular and left bright against the black. Above and below it the iron is blackened, with brassy streaks showing through where the surface has worn back and tool marks running round the body.

The collar is narrow against the body, wide enough for a few stems rather than an armful. The vase is for decorative use only and is not to be used with water or fresh flowers, so what goes in it has to be dry. At 21cm it stands on a dining table without blocking the view across it. The base is flattened rather than rounded, so the vase sits flat on a shelf or a mantelpiece without a stand under it.

The iron is recycled and every vase is forged from repurposed metal, so the run of the solder and the depth of the black differ from one to the next. The Endo range also runs planters, hanging planters, planter stands and two more vases.
