Description

A rectangular cushion cover, 60cm by 40cm, in jute printed with fine sage green stripes. The lines are narrow and closely spaced, gathered into three groups across the face with broad bands of bare jute between them, and each one wavers a little where the block was set down. The ground is a warm oatmeal and the green sits on it rather than dyeing it through, so the cover reads as a natural fabric carrying a green pattern and not as a green cushion. The seamed edges show a stronger green than the face does.

At 60 x 40cm this is the long rectangle rather than the square, so it lies across the back of a sofa or along the head of a bed with squarer cushions behind it. On a sofa the fine stripes read as texture across a room and only resolve into lines close up. The stripes run the long way, so on this shape they run horizontally. The same print is made in a square.

Jute, woven on a handloom. Raw jute is coarse, so the fibre is softened before it reaches the loom. The stripe is hand block printed onto the finished fabric afterwards, which is why the lines vary in weight from one to the next and why no two covers carry the groups in quite the same place. The Eesha is made in ochre as well as this sage green. The cushion pad is not included.

Some fabrics are spot clean only: lift any liquid with an absorbent tissue, blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger or more stubborn marks want a professional.
