Description
A rectangular cushion cover, 60cm wide and 40cm high, woven from jute and block printed in broad ochre bands across an undyed oatmeal ground. The bands are widest through the middle of the cover and narrow into fine lines towards the top and bottom edges. The print is laid on by hand and the dye sits unevenly in the weave, lighter where the block lifted and denser where it pressed, so the ochre runs mottled rather than flat. The weave is open enough to read thread by thread.
At 60 x 40cm this is the long rectangle rather than a square, so it sits in front of square cushions on a sofa or lies across the width of a bed. The bands run the long way across the cover, so the stripe reads horizontally wherever the cushion is placed. The Eesha is offered in two sizes.
The cover is jute, woven on a handloom. Raw jute is coarse, so the fibre goes through a softening treatment before weaving, which is what makes the finished fabric softer to the hand. The stripe goes on afterwards, hand block printed onto the woven fabric, so the register of the pattern wanders slightly and no two covers carry the bands in quite the same place. The cushion pad is not included.

Frequently Asked
What size cushion pad does this cover take?
The cover measures 60 x 40cm. It is sold as a cover and the pad is not included.
Can the cover be washed?
Check the labelling on the cover before washing. Many of the cushion covers are washable, but some fabrics are spot clean only: lift the liquid with an absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it by blowing warm air across the surface from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger or more stubborn marks should be cleaned by a professional.
Will the colour run or fade?
The cushion covers are tested for colourfastness.
Is jute rough to the touch?
The fibre is put through a softening treatment before it is woven, so the finished fabric is softer than raw jute. The weave stays open and the texture is visible.
What sizes does the Eesha come in?
Two. This one is the 60 x 40cm rectangle and the other is a 50 x 50cm square.
