Description
A square cushion cover, 50 x 50cm, in jute block printed with ochre onto the undyed ground of the fabric. The pattern is not an even stripe: groups of fine lines sit towards two edges and two broad blocks of ochre fill the middle, with a wide band of bare jute between them. The dye has gone on unevenly and shows every pass of the block, so the ochre is patchy and worn-looking rather than solid. The weave is coarse and open, and the individual threads are visible across the whole face.
A square at 50 x 50cm is the cushion that sits at the back of a sofa or in the corner of a chair, with smaller or longer ones in front of it. It sits on a pale linen sofa next to the rectangular Eesha. The bands run from one edge to the other, so which way they read is settled by how the cushion is put down. The Eesha is made in this square and in a longer rectangle.
Jute, woven on a handloom. The fibre is coarse in its raw state and goes through a softening treatment before it reaches the loom, which is what makes it comfortable enough for everyday use. The printing is done afterwards by hand, block by block across the woven fabric, so the edges of the bands are soft and no two covers line up the same way. The cushion pad is not included.

Frequently Asked
What size pad does this cover take?
The cover is 50 x 50cm. It is sold as a cover, and the pad is not included.
Can it be washed?
Go by the care label on the cover itself. Some fabrics are spot clean only. Lift any liquid with an absorbent tissue first, blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, then dry it by blowing warm air across the surface from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger or more stubborn marks should be cleaned by a professional.
Is the colour fast?
The cushion covers are tested for colourfastness.
What does jute feel like?
The fibre goes through a softening treatment before it is woven, so it is not as coarse as raw jute. The weave stays open and the texture is visible.
What sizes does the Eesha come in?
Two. This is the 50 x 50cm square; the other is a 60 x 40cm rectangle.
