Description

The Duru is a wine cooler made from a single piece of white marble: a plain cylinder 18cm tall and 12cm across, with a straight rim and a flat base. The stone is white with grey veining and scattered darker flecks, and the veining runs differently on every one. There is no handle and no taper, so the outside is one unbroken surface from base to rim.

It takes one bottle and no more. At 18cm tall a standard bottle stands in it to about the shoulder, and it sits on a laid table beside the glasses rather than out on a sideboard. The 12cm footprint takes about as much table as a small vase, so it sits within reach of a set place.

The marble is white and variegated enough that no two coolers carry the same pattern. Nothing is applied over the stone; the surface is the marble itself, worked smooth. At 2.5kg empty the walls are substantial rather than a thin sleeve, and the cooler stays where it is put when the bottle is lifted out of it. The Duru is made in this one size.
