Description

The Dunai is a planter 27cm across and 20.5cm high, with a round rim that pulls in towards a narrower flat base. On this size the reactive glaze has come out mostly dry and matt, an even mid brown flecked with darker pits and pale streaks, with narrow glossy runs holding at the rim and on the inside of the pot. The rim is a thin rolled edge and the opening measures 22cm.

This is the smallest of the three Dunai sizes. At 27cm across and 22cm at the opening it takes one plant rather than a planting: a herb, a small fern, a clipped box ball. At 4kg empty it can be carried from a step to a windowsill, which the larger two cannot once they are filled. It has drainage holes and is made for outdoors, with a stopper supplied for the holes when it stands inside.

The body is ceramic, moulded by hand in Vietnam and glazed before it is fired. A reactive glaze behaves differently every time it goes into the kiln, which is why the three sizes photographed together read glossy in one and dry in another, and why no two pots of one size match either. There are three sizes in the range.
